Maijazz 2021: En feiring av legenden Joni Mitchell

Join us when Maijazz 2020 invites you to the celebration of one of jazz and popular music's great icons: Joni Mitchell.

In 2018, Canadian composer and singer Joni Mitchell turned 75 years old. At the same time, it was 50 years since her first album release, and since then she has been one of the most important artists of popular music. Her influence also goes deep into jazz. Joni herself embraced jazz and collaborated with icons such as Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden and Herbie Hancock.

In 2018, the Oslo Jazz Festival marked the Joni anniversary. Anja Lauvdal, the forthcoming musician from Flekkefjord, was asked to put together an ensemble for a tribute concert. It was a huge success with two sold-out halls in the Opera. The success continued on both Night Jazz in Bergen and Kongsberg Jazz Festival, all with sold-out concerts! Now Anja Lauvdal comes to Maijazz with a party bouquet of young Norwegian musicians from the top shelf to give Joni Mitchell the honor she deserves.
