|Man waterfall (3 July 2017 - 31 Oct 2018)|
Guided hike to Månafossen
Månafossen is Rogaland county’s biggest waterfall and Norway’s seventh. The hike takes visitors through a forest trail and offers several lookout points over the canyon down below, while the sunlight beams create a spectacle of colors around the crystal clear falling waters of Mån. This is a small piece of paradise that allows one to be inspired and feel connected to nature. Tales of Norwegian history are told by the continuing trail that finally opens up into a green clearing leading to an old, but well preserved, mountain farm. Since the road to and fro is the only one that used to connect the Mån farm to civilization, this hike will feel like going back in time.
ABOUT THE TRAIL
DISTANCE: 1.2km (each way)
DURATION: 1 hour (each way)
LEVEL: Easy to moderate
GOOD TO KNOW
Out-and-back from Eikeskog parking
Available year-round, but conditions are best April to September
The trail is well marked and easy to follow, but depending on weather, the rocks may become slippery in some of the more demanding areas. The initial part of the hike from Eikeskog to the first lookout point is steep but well enforced with stairs and railings. Some hiking experience is desirable, but not mandatory.
138 m (453 ft.)/325 m (1,066 ft.) above sea level
GEAR AND SNACKS
Hikers should be prepared with clothes and shoes for rainy weather. Hiking boots are strongly encouraged, or approach shoes, at the very least. Other suggestions include warm, windproof and waterproof clothing.
Have some water with you to keep hydrated, preferably in a container we can refill on the trail. Norwegian mountains are full of crystal clear, clean and very tasty water sources. Lunch will not be provided, but we suggest that you bring your own snack.
Last but not least, each hiker is responsible for carrying his/her own gear, so a suitable backpack is recommended.
The red-T’s are the mark of Turistforening/Norwegian Trekking Association (link) for all trails around the country.
