If you are under the impression that the only thing to do in the area is the hike to Preikestolen, then you are mistaken! You can go on exciting excursions and find new activities every day. Go swimming, rowing, fishing, berry and mushroom picking, studying plant and animal life, exploring hiding places from the war, and least but not least, there are several different hikes to do. Enjoy roundtrips in mysterious forestry landscapes, and if you prefer hiking alone, go enjoying troll forests, mossy rocks and idyllic, little ponds.
Should you seek a greater challenge on your hike to Preikestolen, you could take a different way back. A short alternative is over the mountain Neverdalsfjellet, some 645 metres above sea level. Here are three suggestions to extend the hike:
1. On your return back, go via the top of mountain Moslifjellet. Signs will show you where this exquisite roundtrip goes. From the 718 metres tall peak you will enjoy fantastic views of large parts of Ryfylke.
2. From Preikestolen there is a partially cairned trail in the southwest direction along the edge of the Lysefjord. You determine for yourself how many viewing platforms you want to experience, and how airy you want them to be. From the mountain Skåpafjellet, you head north and pass through the Torsnes farm before returning to the Preikestolen Mountain Lodge.
3. From Preikestolen, follow the main path back to Neverdalskaret. From here, follow the well-marked trail in the east direction to Bratteli by the Lysefjord. Continue back to Lauvvik/Stavanger by boat - or go further into the fjord to Flørli or Lysebotn. Marked trail goes all round the Lysefjord.
