Forsand - Lysebotn - Suleskar - Byrkjedal - Lauvvik - Forsand.
Around 120 km, one ferry (must be booked in advance for vehicles).
A classical trip through the spectacular fjord, up the steep winding Lysevegen road from Lysebotn and over the Frafjordheiane highlands, which are part of the SVR Nature Reserve. Unforgettable!
When you get to the valley of Sirdal, follow the impressive Hunnedalen down along the Rv45. Eventually, you reach Byrkjedal. Here we suggest a small detour to the Gloppedalsura, northern Europe's biggest scree (boulder field) where a battle stood during the second world war. Continuing on the Rv45, you pass the Giljajuvet gorge. At Gilja, you can turn off to Frafjord and visit the Månafossen, the region's biggest waterfall. It is almost an hours walk to the waterfall.
At Oltedal, you can visit Gjestal, where you can buy norwegian woolen sweaters and garments at outlet prices. There is also a café. Right before you get to the ferry quai at Lauvvik lies Bakernes Paradis, a true paradise on the Høgsfjord with café and souvenir shop.
You can drive this route in one day, but might consider spending the night in Lysebotn. Even if you don't have your own car, you can still enjoy this scenic tour by touristferry and bus.
NB! The road to Lysebotn is closed during winter.
