Street art has left its mark in the Stavanger region for several years, and the annual Nuart festival has really put us on the street art map. The festival takes place in the beginning of September each year, but much of the art you can experience throughout the year. As a visitor, you will have a magnificent, visual experience that you will not soon forget, with large works (including Fintan Magee, Snik, Milu Correch, AFK, Skurk and Martin Whatson) on outdoor walls, mainly in Stavanger and Sandnes city centres.
What is street art?
The area that is loosely defined as street art has its roots in situational art, graffiti, post-graffiti, muralism, cartoon art, stencil art and activism art just to mention some. It is arguably the most exciting development in the visual arts in recent decades. A movement that caught the attention of the general public, collectors, auction houses and curators around the world. Also read about Stavanger's street art buses.
World-leading artists with artistic freedom
Nuart consists of a series of exhibitions all over the city, performances, performances, interventions, debates and workshops covered by today's street trends and movements, made by some of the world's leading practitioners and forward-thinking names. Street art as a genre has evolved significantly in recent years, and Nuart is a leading festival worldwide with a view to identifying, promoting and presenting both pioneers and emerging talent in the field. Artists attending the festival are among the most recognised and progressive performers in the world. This is a form of art exhibition that is not institutionalised or commercial, giving artists the freedom to express themselves to the fullest. Find out more about all the artists and learn about the Nuart festival itself.
